Fotos Lamprinos

Fotos Lamprinos studied film in Moscow-VGIK, (1965-1970) in the laboratory of Michael Romm.  His graduation project, “Visit Greece” (1970),  was an historical retrospect  of the period 1936 – 1967, composed out of newsreels found in the archives of the former Soviet Union. The film won the 1st prize at the 1970 Festival of the Institute of Cinematography .

1971-1973 In collaboration with Costa-Gavras, he thoroughly examined 22 governmental and private film archives in Europe and the United States in order to register news’ reels material referring to Greece (1911-1971).

1973-1974 He worked with Theo Angelopoulos on the script for Angelopoulos’ film “The Travelling Players”.

The period 1975-2013 he has directed over 100 feature length, shorts documentaries, and TV-doc series for the Greek Television (ERT) .

2005-2007 He also collaborated with ERT (National Broadcaster) and EDN, with the program “History Doc”, in order to co-produce and distribute Greek documentaries.

2007-2010 He was collaborating with the “National Audiovisual Archive” in order to organize the film archive material of newsreels for the 20th century.

1993-2002 he was lecturing at the Universities of Crete, Thessalia and Athens,  on the subject: “History and Cinema”
