Vasiliy Sigarev

Vasiliy Sigarev was born on January 11, 1977 in Verkhnyaya Salda, Sverdlovskaya oblast, RSFSR, USSR.

He studied in the Nizhni Tagil Pedagogical Institute but on his third year of study he decided to quit the institute and entered the Yekaterinburg theatre institute, course for playwrights, Nikolai Kolyada’s seminar. In 2005, he staged the show Black Milk in the Puppet Theatre in Yekaterinburg.

In 2009, he directed the film Wolfy with Yana Troyanova as a lead actress. Fifty-one copies of the film were presented in Russian cities. It participated in the Russian First TV Channel program Private Viewing. In 2012, the international release of his second film Living took place at the Rotterdam Film Festival, starring Yana Troyanova, Aleksey Filimonov, Olga Lapshina, Dmitry Kulichkov and others. The film was purchased by 3SAT Channel to be shown in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. 

Vasili Sigarev is a playwright. He won such awards as Début-2000, Antibooker-2000, Eureka-2002, Evening Standard-2002, Novy Stil-2002 and wrote such well-known plays as Plasticine, Black Milk, Ladybirds come back to Earth.

He participated in drama festivals Lubimovka-2000, Shchelykovo-2000 and Bonner Biennale-2002.

In 2015, the third film by Vasili Sigarev is being released, LAND of OZ. In will come to light in Russia as a part of the main contest of the Kinotavr Open Russian Film Festival
