Haruna Honcoop

Haruna Honcoop is a Czech-Japanese filmmaker. After her Chinese Studies at Charles University, she enrolled in the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), where she is now a PhD candidate. She made her directorial debut in 2017 with the experimental film essay Built to Last – Relics of Communist-Era Architecture, which won the Archfilm Lund festival prize. True or False (2016), her short film, won a prize at the This Human World festival in Vienna. Olympic Halftime, which will be premiered at Ji.hlava Festival 2023 examines the architecture and urbanism of Olympic cities in Beijing, Tokyo, Paris, and Athens. Her middle-lenght fiction debut Annexions will be premiered at Kamera Ostrava Oko Festival in November 2023. She develops a new film I Am Taiwanese about political identities of Taiwanese and Eastern Europeans.
