
Maria Järvenhelmi
Аctor, singer, and pianist Maria Järvenhelmi was born, lives and works in Finland. Her last name comes from her great-grandmother, Helmi Järvi, who lived in Vyborg. Her name means “lake pearl” in Finnish. In 2000 she graduated from the Finnish Theater Academy, and that same year she was nominated for the Finnish national film award, Jussi, for her role in the film Bad Luck Love, directed by Olli Saarela. She received another nomination for her role in Rollo and the Spirit of the Woods, also directed by Olli Saarela. The actor received international acclaim for her work in the film Lights in the Dusk, directed by Aki Kaurismäki. The film was nominated for Best Film at the Cannes Film Festival. Järvenhelmi combines work in film and television with her musical career.
