SÍMIO FILMES

Símio Filmes is an audiovisual collective founded in 2002 by students of communications and the arts. From the very beginning, the group produced short-films that circulated successfully at Brazilian and foreign festivals, most notably “Vinil Verde”, which screened at Cannes and at over 50 other events.

Among the group’s feature-length productions are Amigos de Risco – Daniel Bandeira (Festival de Brasília); The Beetle KFZ-1348 – Marcelo Pedroso and Gabriel Mascaro (São Paulo International Film Festival); Um lugar ao sol – Gabriel Mascaro (Visions du Réel);  Pacific – Marcelo Pedroso (Bienal de São Paulo); Avenida Brasília Formosa – Gabriel Mascaro (Rotterdam Festival). All of these films made their mark on the festival circuit and in other spaces devoted to the visual arts, raising aesthetic and political debate among critics, curators and the general public.

The company is currently producing a series of documentaries entitled Modelos em Transe and has a number of feature-films at different stages of completion: Brasil S/A, by Marcelo Pedroso; Propriedade Privada, by Daniel Bandeira, and Vernissage, by Juliano Dornelles.
